Low Carb Bun Fun 101

At Carbonaut, we know that low carb used to mean skipping the bun—but not anymore. Bun substitutions aren’t fun! Kids don’t hang out after a track meet and eat lettuce-wrapped hot dogs. Dad doesn’t want a piece of kale encasing his smokie. Veggie dogs wrapped in cabbage just aren’t the same.  

3…2…1…let’s bring back the bun!

 

Check out these stellar ways to take your basic bun to planet fun:

 

Toast

 

  1. Open up your bun and lay inside-down on the top of your toaster.
  2. Leave on top to toast for about 2 minutes. (Exact timing will vary.)
  3. Remove buns to a plate.

 

Bake

 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place buns on baking sheet and bake until they are warmed through and lightly crispy (about 5 minutes).

 

Steam, 2 Ways:

 

The Double Boiler

  1. Start boiling about an inch of water in a double boiler.
  2. Place the buns in for about 20 seconds.

The Microwave

  1. Take a sheet of paper towel and lightly sprinkle it with water.
  2. Wrap the buns in the moistened paper, and microwave for about 10 seconds. (Exact timing will vary because microwave temps can vary.)
  3. Remove from microwave and peel off the paper towel.

 

Air Fry

 

  1. Place buns in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  2. Cook in the preheated air fryer until crisp, about 2 minutes.

 

Grill

 

  1. Open buns and place inside-down on the top grill of your BBQ until they are slightly toasted (about 2 minutes).

 

Enhance

 

Prior to or directly following any of the methods above, consider using one (or several!) of the following delicious enhancements to elevate your bun game and explore some serious bun fun:
